Press Release, October 2009:
“After four years of winning Silver in the prestigious 'Taste of the West' Food and Drink Awards, Fremington Quay Cafe has finally reached the top, earning Gold this year.
The Cafe has gone from strength to strength since it opened in the renovated old railway station at the historic Fremington Quay in 2001. It has achieved many accolades including being rated 17th in the Independent’s '50 Best Cafes' in the UK, but it is safe to say that they are most proud of this Taste of the West award. The criteria laid down by Taste of the West are notoriously stringent and Fremington Quay Cafe is, yet again, the only cafe in North Devon to win an award.
The continuing popularity of the cafe increases year by year and in 2009 they had their busiest year yet. With editorials in many national newspapers, including The Sunday Mail, The Telegraph and The Sunday Times, and mentions on Radio 4 and several television programs, it is not difficult to see what all the fuss is about.”

We were fortunate enough to be visited by BBC food and drink critic Oz Clarke recently. He spent time with Fremington Quay Café chef Susan Harty tasting our range of local ales and enjoying an afternoon luncheon overlooking the river Taw.
Read what he had to say about our establishment here.
Our innovative menu responds to the availability of fresh local vegetables, fish and game, accompanied by West Country wines, beers and ciders. Our cream teas, probably the best in Devon, comprise freshly made scones, organic cream and home-made jam. Our visitors’ book says “Wonderful food, friendly staff, great music and fantastic views”.
